Spring Promises

Sarah (the little one) is standing with Betty. Yep, they're up in my Etsy store.
I've been using my sock monkeys as part of my baby shower gifts. You know, get a pretty gift bag, fill it up with baby supplies, throw a little sock monkey on top of it all. It's machine washable too!

Man, there are a lot of talented people out there at Etsy, who can make such wonderful things. I expected to be lost in the crowd, but I got an invitation to join the group of 'Durham Region Handmade Cafe'. It's a local group made of crafters to post photos of what they do and to connect with others. It's great to see what is happening in your own neighbourhood! I also got a nibble from a store on Queen St. East about selling my little plushies. Let's see what happens.
Who would have known things like this could happen in my life?!

It's taken me this long to consider selling anything I've made because I've never thought it was worth selling- or as family members commented, "who would want that?".

Well, these little bits of interest that I've gotten though the internet has proven them wrong. I always knew to keep creating no matter what the good/bad comments were, I just never thought I could actually show and sell.
One of my assemblages. I'll post some others at a future date, and maybe put these in my Etsy store too.

This is Brodie wondering why I'm always sticking this camera in his face. Especially when he's sleeping.

Shove THAT up your loser ass.

You may now resume your normal activities.

Settling In

Since we've moved here, Randy has been asking me if I feel settled in the house yet, does the house feel like a home, do I feel the love for this house?
Umm....NO.
This is a wonderful house, I'm glad we moved (though I wasn't so happy with our mortgage broker), but it doesn't feel like MY house. I think it will take longer than three months before I "feel the love".
Doing it in every room only helps a little. This was the advice given to me by a friend in Ottawa. It was fun, but it didn't quite work.
My cats have settled in just fine, though Jazzie seems to be a bit more timid these days. Maybe she needs more time too.

One of my artist friends,Charles, called me a few days ago, saying he's got a rat in his bathroom. It actually came out of the toilet!. It's not a myth? Rats can do that?
If you find a baseball bat in my bathroom, there's a very good reason why.

Valentines All Day Long

I made Randy this Valentines Heart. It has a magnet on the back, so it can stay on the fridge all year long.
And he made me breakfast!
Bacon and eggs over easy is a good meal, but not a romantic one, so he got me this:

A single long stemmed rose is always more than enough!
Meanwhile, I've painted half the basement, taken off some of the wallpaper in the bedroom, and finally started on my art projects.
A question: what does it mean when all of a sudden, you've been finding dimes every day for a week?
(that was just a random thought)

Brodie is still on the look out for Stanley. At least it keeps him occupied. Otherwise, he'd be following me around the house, whining the entire time.
Now, Randy and I are off for a walk and a Timmie's...

House Matters

This is what we bought for our house a week ago:

:

We are now officially house rich and cash poor. The hutch was on sale after the 'Boxing Week' was over. We had our eye on it for nearly a month. Now it's in a snug niche in our kitchen, and for some reason, the cats are leaving it alone. Maybe because they're busy looking out for squirrels- and STANLEY!!!
Stanley is an ex-resident of this house. His family moved four blocks away, which means he's close enough to walk through an alley, cross a busy street, jump a few fences, and go through a thick cedar bush in order to knock on our door. Brodie and Jazzie get their dose of drama when he shows up.

This is Stanley. I do not have permission from my cats to let him into the house. Even during an a hurricane or other acts of God.

I'll be starting my art projects, now that Chris Greenhaugh (owner of Scenelements) has made the frames for them. They're sitting in the basement waiting to be collaged, painted and assembled to within an inch of it's life. This 3x6.5 ft. frame will be part of my urban landscape series. I will post an "after" photo when I'm done. This will be a new direction for me to take with my art work. I've mostly painted mandalas in the past, while these landscapes will be more abstract. It's good to stretch one's self. Even when you're terrified of doing so.

Jazzie and Brodie on the lookout.

The Void Between Xmas and New Years

Today is a very cold and overcast day, but Brodie doesn't mind, as long as he's inside looking out a window. We've just moved into our new house (new to us! The house was built in 1983) earlier this month. The cats have settled in with no problems, but we're still feeling our way around, figuring out where to put everything.
Since I'm inside too, I've been making my baby sock monkeys:
This is Sarah, who is only 3.5 inches tall. I'll be putting her, and some others in my Esty store in the New Year.

This is Nancy, she's about 6 inches tall. I still need to crochet a hat for her before I give her to my niece.

I'm also making a series of Zombie Baby Sock Monkeys. Just because I can. Actually, this gives me more leeway in what I can do with a sock monkey, other than just 'cute'. This guy is Mike and he mindlessly creates death and destruction where ever he goes. But in a sock monkey way, of course.
